Here are several things that can help you differentiate it from an earlier Xbox One controller:

• The Xbox Series cross now forms a circle
• The controller has three buttons in the center instead of two
• If your controller is a Robot White or Carbon Black then it is an Xbox Series controller.
• If you bought your controller new after December 2019 it is an Xbox Series controller
