However, many players do not know how to set them up correctly and think that their controller is defective, or find that they have simply stopped working.

In this article, we'll explain how to set up your PS5 Edge controller and explore possible reasons why your paddles might not be working, along with some solutions to resolve the issue.

PS5 Edge setup issue

The first and easiest issue to resolve is paddle configuration. If you just got a PS5 Edge controller and jumped straight into the game thinking button customization would happen automatically, that's not the case. Sony gives you the option to configure your controller to your liking, but it's up to you to do so.

Creating profiles

To begin, you'll need to create a profile to access the PS5's customization of each button via the remapping feature. To do this, go to Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controllers > Custom Profile . (See the image for steps.)

Once in “Custom Profile,” click “Create Custom Profile,” name this profile, and you’ll be able to access remapping. As you can see, you can create up to four different profiles with assigned shortcuts, allowing you to switch between profiles depending on the game you’re playing. For example, you can have a profile for racing games, a profile for FPS games, or even a profile for adventure games, with customized keys for each profile so you can feel as comfortable as possible while perfecting your performance.

Remapping

With the PS5 Edge controller, Sony offers the ability to customize not only the buttons, but also the sensitivity of the joysticks, triggers, and controller vibration. (See the image below.) What we're interested in here is "Customize Button Assignments" to configure the rear paddles.

Here's how it works: You can change all the buttons to suit your preferences to get a controller that's perfect for you. To assign functions to the paddles, simply select them and assign them to the desired buttons.

Testing the configuration

All you have to do now is test the in-game configuration to make sure everything is working properly. Remember to select your profile with the shortcut you chose, as sometimes the profile doesn't automatically activate, especially if it's a new PS5 Edge controller.
