Sony veut remplacer vos manettes par… des objets !

Sony wants to replace your controllers with... objects!

Sony filed a patent last week that aims to replace your controllers with everyday objects, and it's the banana that's causing a stir!

An innovative patent

With the latest DualSense controller , Sony has gone all out in terms of technology and immersion to offer its players a new experience. But apparently Sony doesn't want to stop there from a technological point of view. Indeed, the Japanese brand has filed an innovative new patent , implementing a concept that would allow an everyday object to be used as a controller. We can say that Sony has shown imagination and is asserting its futuristic vision more than ever.

Sony stated in this patent that " it would be desirable if a gamer could use a simple, inexpensive, non-electronic object as a video game peripheral ." A benevolent message with a good feeling, but one that nonetheless leaves the public doubtful. Sony provided a drawing of a banana with two buttons found on a PlayStation controller.

Replace your controller with an object

You're probably wondering how any object can be connected and used as a game controller. In fact, a camera connected to the console would be there to detect the object, the position of the fingers on it in order to match the position of the buttons. Sony uses the example of bananas because it's the fruit that could most resemble a controller in terms of ergonomics and grip.

But in theory, it could work with a packet of cookies or even a pencil case. Another solution proposed by Sony would be for games to directly indicate to players the types of objects they can use as controllers. Since this is only a patent, the project may never be realized. But in any case, this is the brand's goal: to replace your controllers with objects.
In the meantime, you can stay on a safe bet with the DualSense, which offers far more capabilities than any other item. And what's more, unlike a banana, you can customize your controller!
