What is Palworld?
Palworld is an action-adventure survival game set in an open world with creatures called “Pals.” The goal is to capture and raise these creatures to later equip them with firearms. It can be played solo or in an online server with up to 32 players. The similarities between Pals and Pokémon have earned it nicknames like “Pokémon with guns” and “Pokémon Fortnite.”

The game is heavily inspired by Ark Survival , a pioneer in the survival game genre. We must manage our needs as well as find resources to create a shelter in order to survive. More than 100 pals are found on the islands to fight, eat or capture. We must also face various NPC factions such as a liberation movement for the Pals. The developers explained that their inspiration comes from Rust, Dragon Quest and of course Pokémon.

Despite generally positive public feedback, Palworld has been embroiled in controversy ever since its release. The strong similarity between Pals and Pokémon has naturally raised questions among the general public. Nintendo has already begun to take action regarding even the slightest mention of Pokémon. In fact, a mod allowing players to play with real Pokémon models was immediately removed, under threat of legal action from the Japanese franchise.
Many have also questioned the potential use of AI to create the creatures, leading to an uproar on social media, particularly on X. Many threads have cited ambiguous tweets from PocketPair's boss about AI and copyright. Since the team has yet to comment on the matter, doubts persist among internet users.
